Making Sleeptime Peaceful For You And BabyOne of the most difficult parts of being a new mom is getting sleep time to be part of a positive and peaceful process. Often it is stressful and women tend to get very over tired and overwhelmed. You can find a lot of advice on the Internet and from other moms and nurses, but you just have to experiment and find a balance that works for you. One of the most important things to do is to get a routine established. Some people are very good at sticking to routines and others do not like them, but babies operate best with a routine and it will save you a lot of stress in the long run. It is important to keep the baby calm and relaxed prior to bed time. Part of the routine could be a relaxing bath and cuddle time and this will soothe baby rather than having them over stimulated. Before you even get to meet your new baby you should try to set up their bedroom or sleeping space well to ensure good ventilation and comfort for the baby and you. An armchair is particularly useful in the nursery. A convertible crib is a useful option for the baby to sleep in as they can be altered to meet their needs from infancy up to going into a normal bed. There are also many designs that allow the crib to be folded and transported to other places easily. When purchasing the cot it is a good idea to get a convertible crib natural colored. This will mean that you can easily use it for later babies regardless of the sex of the child and you may be able to sell it more easily when you are finished with it. Once you have the crib all figured out, then you will need to purchase a bedding collection. You will need to have a few spares on hand to cope with the leakages that occur from both ends of babies at times. Having around three sets is ideal - one for use, one to be washed and one in reserve at all times. When your baby has passed the six month mark, many moms try to do controlled crying to get them to settle themselves and go to sleep when they wake up. It can be very stressful to hear your baby crying, so some moms do not choose to follow this technique. There are other things that you can do and if you are unsure or feeling like you are not coping then seek the help of a baby nurse. You should only try controlled crying after six months and before two years if you are sure that your baby is getting enough cuddles, attention and care during the day. It should also be used as part of a positive bedtime routine for you and your baby.
